Painted entirely on location in the rain. The Dragon Kiln of Longquan Pottery is just up the valley and the descendants of those potters added to the sketch.
Where the rice grass is greener than green I traveled through valleys filled with light. Rain and light, the red earth and two thousand miles of mountains, rivers, lakes and people, I left the village where I painted two thousand years of place to race ahead of the approaching typhoon. Every turn was a picture throwing the suns’s shadows from west to the east as I ventured along the highway past communities. Every meal a feast, every tunnel cut through the mountain sped me on my way to visit museums and kilns and many more generous people.
